McCalls 4695 was used for this very basic
doublet. It is the basic plain view, with the split sleeves from View D
and a simple tie closure down the front. I didn't use the cap sleeves or
peplum.
Materials used: about 1.5 yards of 60" green
velvet, black cotton lacing cord, silver-look tips for the cord, and
black thread for sewing.
Underneath, the model wears a white poet's shirt
from Butterick's 5656, made of white handkerchief-weight linen.

The sleeves are detachable, with a flap over the shoulder that
hides the join. They tie with black cord through lacing rings that are
very evenly spaced, so I can make other sleeves to wear with this vest
sometime. The ties are detachable too, so if they fray or wear, I can
replace them. Only one end of the ties are set up with aiglets because why
do both ends? The lacing rings are simple 1/2" brass rings obtained from
an upholstery shop; they are sewn into the shoulder. Nothing to it.
