Little Bit: Maybe Not So Little

Little Bit was one of my mother's cats (Sybil is the
other). Upon my mother's death in 2003, I inherited the cats. My friend Ben
got the other (he has Fender too), and Little Bit
came up north to Idaho with me.
Little Bit was once, my mother promised, very little. She was an ex-feral
rescued by a vet's office, and Mom saw her and melted when she took one of
her other cats for a checkup. Little Bit came home with Mom. A couple years
later, the same thing happened with Sybil. Mom had
a real soft spot for hard-luck cases, and ex-ferals are pretty hard-luck cases.
There's no way to understate what a wacky cat this is. Little Bit is
by turns affectionate and aloof, smothering and hostile. When I first met her,
she'd have absolutely nothing to do with me. Now she adores me, but she likes
Adam better. She sleeps on our heads and shoves her butt in our faces. She
likes nothing better than to show off that butt of hers -- "LOOK AT IT! Doesn't
it SMELL GOOD?", she seems to ask, and doesn't quite get why we're not totally
fascinated with it.
Her ear is notched, probably a holdover from when she was captured and
spayed as a kitten. She's an odd little character, but I can't imagine
the household without her now.

She doesn't realize she's about to get on a plane in that thing. TRUE STORY: She got the deep-anal-probe inspection ticket. I didn't. The huge airport rent-a-cop with his gut hanging over his belt couldn't believe he had to inspect a cat carrier. I said, "You can try, but I'll warn you now: she's 18 pounds and mean, and I just sedated her. Try not to wake her up." He actually turned pale. One quick peek into the carrier later, I was let on board. I could have put a loaded .357 in that carrier, and he'd never have seen it. On the other hand, I'd have had to reach into the carrier to get the thing, and I wasn't happy about that idea any more than he was.

Truism: Monster and
Little Bit absolutely, positively hate each other.
|

She likes bookcases. Who can find fault with that?
|

I'm not sure how she's managing that action while in such
tight quarters.
|

Sybil and Little Bit.
|

Don't be fooled. They hated each other.
|

She loves cat trees.
|

But here's the rest of the picture.
|

Sitting around at Mom's house.
|

What she does best -- looking paranoid.
|

She didn't care much for packing. This, incidentally, was "her" perch at Mom's house.
|

First day at my house. Notice she found "her" perch again.

|

Box = Little Bit magnet.
|

I got this picture just because her tail looks so gorgeous in it.
